The past has no ability to keep us from being fully conscious in the present.
It is only our attention to old stories that prevents us from seeing the possibility in the now
Every single day is an opportunity for a new perspective, a new beginning. The past can be a generous teacher but it never has to hold us slave to what was. The present moment holds all the power and possibility we allow ourselves to see.
Imagine the abundance all around us if we could train ourselves to see without the judgement of yesterday? Without the labels we have given our-selves? Without the stories we have wrapped around our “potential” that smother and dull. Imagine the power we would have if we could shake off the cloak of old presumptions, old mistakes, old shame? It is so easy for us to see the possibilities in children, we easily say and believe that “the world is your oyster” and that “You can do anything you put your mind to”. Deeply feeling that open future for someone else is easy because we don’t have the same attachments to experiences and judgements for them. We can see them for who they truly are, an enormity of possibility and potential. The same IS TRUE for each and every one of US. Those old stories that we have taken ownership of have no hold on us UNLESS we give them that power. We have ultimate control over how we see ourselves and letting go of those old presumptions allows us to feel the opportunities we have in the present moment.
The truth is that there are no restrictions and the world is still a playground for exploration and finding enormous joy. The first step is allowing ourselves to let go. Put that heavy backpack of old stories down. It has lessons to learn from, to be sure, but holding on to it is only weighing us down from running forward into the light of possibility. And I don’t know about you, but my shoulders are sore. They are ready to feel free again.
Lead with a lighter load.
