Dr. Tarryn MacCarthy The Business of Happiness Female Dental Business Coach

You Don’t Have to Feel This Way Forever

You’re the one everyone relies on — your team, your patients, your student loans(!), your family.

But lately, your body has been sending signals:
Persistent headaches, numb fingers, aching back, hormonal dysregulation… that buzzing in your brain that won’t shut off.
You’re tired all the time and can’t remember the last time you had a satisfying night’s sleep.
And you’re starting to wonder…

Is this just how it is now?

Is this what “success” requires in dentistry?

Is my body going to make it to retirement?

As an orthodontist and business owner, I remember those days when I thought I just had to push through. Smile wider. Work harder. Be everything for everyone.

Don’t get me wrong – on the outside I looked like I had it altogether- but underneath it all, I felt like I was unraveling.

I tried everything to FEEL BETTER.

I going on vacation and literally paid $1000 to come home early from a trip to Costa Rica with my husband because I couldn’t relax and was so stressed about needing to get back to my responsibilities at home.

I tried working out harder and Crossfit messed my shoulder up so badly I was told I would need to take 6 months off of work for surgery. I was terrified at the thought!

I tried therapy to just feel better in my work if this was going to be my life for the foreseeable future – and I would leave my sessions feeling worse and never having a plan for making any changes in my practice or in my life.

I had no idea that what I was experiencing was shared by so many women dentists and that it didn’t have to be that way.

I had no idea that as a woman dentist there were unique mindsets that had been entrenched in me that were the exact reason why I pushed myself so hard and never felt good enough and that I had the power to change those voices in my head!

No one ever taught us how to lead our minds the way we lead our practice.

What Is Mindset Coaching With Somatic Support?

It’s more than positive thinking.
It’s learning how to shift your inner dialogue and also calm your nervous system — so you’re not just thinking differently, but feeling differently. And it’s the second part of this that is so unique to our profession and so critical to lasting change.

This work helps you:

  • Show up more grounded at work, even on high-stress days and to no longer feel like an emotional punching bag to unhappy patients.
  • Leave work at work — instead of bringing that tension home – have more time for presence with the people you love most and more energy to take care of you.
  • Trust your instincts as a leader and speak up for what you need. Feel more confident in your own decisions and to know that you deserve what you are asking for.
  • Quiet the inner critic that says you’re not doing enough – that you are not enough. This might be the one greatest outcome – realizing your innate value and not needing anyone else to validate it for you
  • Reconnect with your body, before the stress shows up as illness. Need I say more?

You don’t need to power through anymore- that was the old paradigm in dentistry that no longer works. You need support that actually works — right in the moment, in your practice, between patients, before that tough conversation, when you feel too exhausted to be present with your kids at night.

Nervous system regulation practices like breathwork, micro-movements, and visualization aren’t just “wellness fluff” when they are paired with your work and your day in dentistry. They become practical, science-backed tools that help you reclaim your energy, presence, and power — so you can thrive both in and out of the op. They are the fuel to embody the mindset practices that need to shift so that you can start valuing your time and your enoughness.

Let’s Talk About You
