Nothing Is Permanent—And That’s Where ALL Possibility Lives

Maybe you have been feeling like things are falling apart.

Maybe you found yourself thinking:

 “My practices is falling apart”

“This country is falling apart”

“My life is falling apart”

Maybe it started when one of your team members gave her notice or your monthly production dipped lower than you can remember it doing before.

Maybe you’ve started questioning whether this version of your business still fits who you are.

Maybe you’re exhausted, and you feel like you’re holding everything together, afraid that if you let go… everything might fall apart.

What I would love to offer to you is that YOU ARE NOT ALONE… and YOU ARE NOT BROKEN:

You’re not doing anything wrong.
You are evolving.

And change—even though it can feel enormously uncomfortable—is never the enemy. It’s the invitation.

What If Change Is a Portal, Not a Problem?

It’s so fascinating that when we get to a certain point of success or achievement we inevitably start to fight to keep it. We’ve been taught that in order to be successful dentists—especially as women—we need to hold on tightly. To team members. To business models. To identities we built a decade ago. To the way it’s always been done.

But the truth is: nothing is permanent.
And when we fight against change we suffer, but when we lean into it we open up to new evolution, new possibilities.

I love looking to nature to see the reassurance of this. In nature, everything moves in cycles. Trees lose their leaves- the very thing they rely on for photosynthesis. Flowers bloom and wilt. Entire ecosystems collapse and regenerate. And in each collapse is the seed of new life.

After a forest fire, the land is scorched—but what follows is astonishing: richer soil, new life forms, and biodiversity that couldn’t have existed before. Without the fire, the forest could not evolve.

So why do we think our businesses—or our identities—should stay the same forever?

Letting Go Is Part of Empowered Leadership

I know from my own experience as a dental business owner how painful changes can be in practice – especially when a team member we rely on gives her notice. Whether that person leaves by choice or necessity, it can feel like a personal failure.

We ask ourselves:

  • What did I do wrong?
  • Why couldn’t I make them stay?
  • Why can’t I seem to hold onto staff like the dentist who mentored me did?

It is in the resisting of the change that we start to beat ourselves up and add more strain and fear.

And right here is where I would love to offer a REFRAME: What if you allowed change to be the catalyst for a new evolved version of your practice?

Maybe that relationship fulfilled its season.
Maybe your practice—and you—are making room for something new.

Recently, a colleague of mine had to leave his dental practice of 25 years when his wife became ill and they found themselves needing to relocate. It was heartbreaking—but it also opened a new path. He wasn’t just ending a chapter. He was shifting into a new relationship with his identity, a new finding of time with the woman he loved dearly, an opportunity to slow down and focus on what truly matters in his life. The same change becomes an incredible gift when you lean into the shift instead of fighting it. And that right there is a leadership superpower!

Because even our relationship with our businesses are meant to evolve. They are living, breathing partnerships—if we allow them to be. And if we remember that just like the Sequoia tree, we are a part of nature too.

Surrender Isn’t Weakness. It’s Wisdom.

For so many of us the resistance isn’t about the external change at all…
…but about the inner story we carry that says change means failure.

But what if learning to let go—of a role, a person, a schedule, or a version of yourself—is the most powerful thing you could do?

I’m going to offer you a mantra you can try on and perhaps bring with you when you feel the discomfort of change:

“When I surrender to change, I step into the sacred rhythm of renewal.
I can welcome change—because I know it is the birthplace of possibility.”

Allow this be your new lens.

Instead of asking, “What’s falling apart?”
Ask, “What opportunity or possibility am I making space for?”

Because in that space, you may find the very freedom, peace, and happiness you’ve been searching for all along.

If This Spoke to You…

I would love to invite you to listen to episode #365 of The Business of Happiness podcast: “When Letting Go Is The Smartest Career Move You’ll Ever Make”. In this episode I explore this very topic: surrendering to impermanence, shifting the way we see change, and reclaiming our power in that transition – even in dentistry!

You can find the episode on Apple Podcasts or on Spotify.

And if it resonated, please subscribe and share it with another woman in dentistry who might just need this message today.

You are not breaking.
You are becoming.
